Counselors Checklist

The SRJC Student Outreach team recognizes and values the expertise of our high school partners. This page outlines our recommended best practices for delivering outreach services at your school. Together with the JumpStart Program, it serves as a guide for developing a comprehensive, year-round outreach plan tailored to each school’s needs and preferences.

Below is a general overview of our typical in-person outreach plan, along with contact information for scheduling visits. Use this as a reference when deciding which outreach services to bring to your campus. While in-person presentations and workshops are considered best practice, virtual options are available upon request.

Seniors’ Presentations provide an overview of the college enrollment process, key student services and programs, and the differences between high school and college life.

College Nights/Parent Information Nights include everything covered in the Seniors’ Presentations, plus additional details about academic majors, certificate programs, transfer options to four-year universities, AA degree requirements, and other topics relevant to parents.

College Fairs are tabling events where SRJC staff are available to speak directly with students and their families about college opportunities, academic programs, and available support services.

Best Practices for Students:

  • Create and regularly check a personal email account for college communications. Be sure to remember your login and password.
  • Use your own email address—not a parent’s—when completing the college application.
  • Know your Social Security Number (if you have one) before starting the application.
  • Bring your cell phone to the application workshop in case you need help with the CCCApply process.
